About the System

Fundamentally, training in Wu Ji Chyuan Fa seeks to provide individuals and families with the skills necessary to defend themselves and others, develop individually through our Warriorship Development Programs, and to function in a positive & constructive way in society.

The knowledge encompassed by the Wu Ji Chyuan Fa system and our Wu Ji Tao training structures can be separated into the following broad areas of study and application.

Martial Skills

These include Power Drills to maximize hitting power with punches, kicks, strikes, throws, etc.; grappling, joint locks, pressure points; multiple opponent skills; weapons of every kind; ground fighting; team fighting skills; evasion and escape; and an in depth study of strategies and tactics. Also included are the skills of awareness of one's environment; winning mindsets; drills to increase one's sensitivity to notice the subtle (and obvious) cues in the world both within and without that are pertinent to life and survival.

Personal Development

These include the self-determination of a personal code of ethics; a study of warriorship; meditations to clear, discipline and focus the mind; physical fitness programs to energize the body and training to maintain one's health; emphasis and training on acting instead of reacting; being a proactive force for good in the community and in the world and understanding one's place in it.

Life Skills

Charting and creating one's Destiny; goal setting and achievement; balancing the five areas of growth for a successful and fulfilling life; organizational and "scheduling" skills; creating circumstances.

A Brief History

The literal translation of Wu Ji Chyuan Fa means "All Origins Martial Method" and this is an accurate description of the system. It is an all-inclusive organization of martial skills ranging from diffusion & de-escalation techniques, and hand-to-hand & weapons combat, to survival skills and more.

With its origins dating back to approximately 550 B.C. with the efforts of a chinese family to learn everything that was obtainable about combat in all its forms, this system has been continually updated and upgraded since that time. This has been accomplished by learning and incorporating skills from all forms of martial arts & military practice, as well as from psychological science, survival training, etc, and gathered from every country—incorporating the best and discarding the rest.

Shortly prior to the turn of the Millenium, the family finished researching and studying the last of over 1,400 known martial and military systems in the world and has since been in the process of reviewing and incorporating the most recently gathered material into the system. From long experience, however, we have found that new martial knowledge is always being developed and especially as the circumstances change with which individuals & society are confronted.

Because of this, efforts are always underway to: deepen our current understanding of martial skills & modifying applications accordingly, repurposing knowledge that has already been gathered, or creatively improving upon current skills to satisfy new/unmet needs.

Founder & History

Founded in 1991 by Tom Garriga, the Tang Wei Martial Arts Institute, Inc. taught the Wu Ji Chyuan Fa martial system through a school located in the Cottonwood Heights area of Salt Lake City, Utah.

This school, as a facility, closed its doors to public instruction in 2000 when the founder and head of the school moved out of state, although private instruction was continued by the school founder with existing students, as well as by a handful of idependent instructors still residing in Utah.

Independent Instructors

Since each of the independent instructors are not afilliated with Tang Wei Martial Arts Institute in an official or binding capacity, we are unable to provide their individual schedules or places of instruction.

Nevertheless, contact information for these individuals is viewable for registered users in the "Contact Us" page, for the purpose of making direct inquiry to individual instructors.
